The 120ft neo-classical Italianate Tower was built in 1827 for William Beckford as a study retreat by Henry Goodridge. Today it contains a museum collection with prints, paintings, objects and models illustrating Beckfordís life and interests both at Fonthill Abbey and in Bath. Visitors can climb the easy 156 steps to the newly restored Belvedere to enjoy fine views over the city and countryside. A Victorian cemetery adjoins the tower where many Bath notables are buried including both William Beckford and Henry Goodridge.
