FAQ

What is The Bath Bulletin Board?

The Bath Bulletin Board uses the popular concept of pixel marketing to deliver an inexpensive web-based advertising medium to the city of Bath. Just like the bulletin/notice board in your local post office this website offers a single location for people and companies to advertise themselves and peruse existing ads.

How does it work?

Each ad on the board comprises of three elements.

  1. An icon: this is the bit people see first. Each icon is a set size (the smallest availabe is 20 x 20 pixels) and is an image chosen by the advertiser (perhaps a logo or photograph or letter or word).
  2. A pop-up ad: this is what tells the visitor more about you. When the visitor moves the cursor over an icon, the pop-up ad appears. It contains a few lines of text about the advertiser and again is specified by the advertiser.
  3. A link. Each icon can be a link to a website of the advertisers choosing. Most likely it will be the company website of the advertiser. It is likely that this is what many advertisers will be most interested in - in essence, The Bath Bulletin Board is an inexpensive way to drive more potential customers to their website.

How do I get an ad on The Bulletin Board?

To post an advertisement on the Bulletin Board you must click on the "Buy Space" link at the top of the page and follow the short online sign-up procedure, which includes an area for you to upload your ad artwork (if you have it ready) and a place for you to specify your pop-up ad text and link URL. If you choose to upload your ad during sign-up, as soon as we receive payment (see below) we will place your ad on The Bulletin Board. If you choose to email us your artwork at a later date (or if you would like us to contact you to organise your artwork) we will obviously have to wait until we have both your payment and your artwork before we can put you ad on the board.

How do I pay for my ad?

During the sign-up process advertisers are directed to PayPal to pay for their ad. PayPal is a global leader in secure online financial transactions. Used and trusted by millions worldwide, PayPal allows us to provide a secure online payment method (including the ability to accept credit cards) using an established and proven provider. As an advertiser, you also know that you are using a trusted service and, if you are already a PayPal member, it is even more convenient. But don't worry, if you are not a member of PayPal you are not required to become one to pay for your ad (PayPal will ask you if you'd like to become a member, but only after the payment process if complete).

You can also pay by cheque if you wish. However, we can only start processing your ad once we have received your payment, so paying by cheque will take longer. If you wish to pay by cheque, make it payable to "Find It Net" for the appropriate amount (depending on how many squares you buy) plus VAT of 17.5% to the following address: Find It Net, Belgrave Lodge, Upper Camden Place, Bath BA1 5JA. Be sure to write your reference number (given to you during the sign-up process) on the back of your cheque.

After payment, what happens next?

Once your payment has been received, we will contact you either by phone or email and finalise your ad details. Specifically, we will establish which square(s) on the Bulletin Board you would like (you can choose to have your ad anywhere on the board as long as it is still available) and how you wish to provide us with your icon artwork.

How do I provide artwork?

We would prefer you to create your own artwork and email it to us. Just send us an image file - either .jpg or .gif (not animated!) - that has the same pixel count as the ad space you have bought - please note that we reserve the right to refuse any inappropriate or offensive files.

If you need us to create artwork for you please provide us with a business card or stationery that features your company logo and we will put together something for you. If you have ordered a square format space and your logo is long and thin it may not all fit within the space.
